About PRINCE2
PRINCE2® (Projects IN a Controlled Environment) is a structured method for effective project management. PRINCE2 is a general method, based on best practice, for the management of all kinds of projects . The PRINCE2 method has become standard-setting for the organization, management and monitoring of projects worldwide. The method divides projects into manageable phases to promote effective control of resources and regular monitoring of progress. PRINCE2 is 'product based' ie. the project plans are focused on delivering results and not just planning when the activities will be carried out; it provides a common language within a project and provides breakpoints within a contractual framework.
Advantages of PRINCE2 ®
- PRINCE2 has an organized and controlled start. ensures that there is a valid reason for the project and that all people and resources have been organized and are ready for the project.
- PRINCE2 has an organized and controlled middle. Once the project has been organized and started, it is continuously checked that the validity of the project is maintained.
- PRINCE2 has an organized and controlled end.
- PRINCE2 having a controlled end is always better than the natural tendency to slip into the operational life of a product. We therefore need to make sure that the project's products are accepted by our client before the project can officially end.
- Regular review of progress against the plan and against the Business Case.
- PRINCE2 has flexible decision points.
- PRINCE2 has controlled management of deviations from the project plans thanks to the deviation control principle.
- The involvement of management and stakeholders at the right time and place during the project.
- Good communication between the project's management team, the stakeholders and the rest of the organization.
- PRINCE2 can be applied to all types of projects.
The method provides clear definitions of roles and responsibilities so that everyone can understand what is expected of them and what they can expect from others.
